Bitrate is how much audio data is packed into each second of the file. Higher bitrate generally preserves more detail — but only if that detail existed in the source to begin with.
Why 320kbps output isn't proof of 320kbps source quality
When NoBsDL converts a YouTube video to MP3 at 320kbps, it's encoding at that target — not verifying or restoring quality the original audio didn't have. If the source video's audio was itself lower quality (common for spoken content, older uploads, or heavily compressed streams), a 320kbps output file will be larger but won't sound better than a lower bitrate would. Converting at a higher bitrate never adds fidelity that wasn't already in the source; it only avoids removing more than necessary from what's there.
When a lower bitrate makes sense
- Podcasts, lectures, spoken word: 128kbps is usually plenty and keeps the file small.
- Music, or when file size doesn't matter: 320kbps preserves as much of the source as possible.
- Storage-constrained downloads (mobile, limited data): a lower bitrate means faster downloads and less space used.

Higher bitrate means a bigger file for the same length of audio. A 320kbps file will be noticeably larger than a 128kbps file of the same video — worth considering if you're converting something long.
